The Accompanying Group to the Endangered Languages GALA-Linguapax participated to the Round Table “Towards the International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022-2032” in the framework of the National Indigenous Languages Fair organized by the National Institute of Indigenous Languages (INALI), to discuss actions and recommendations for the launch of the Decade and assess the mexican policies towards indigenous languages.
The development of the conversation was very positive, reiterating the need for national states to consider members of civil society, and to assume corresponsibility with sectors such as the academy about the present and future of the original languages, for a greater and better management of Mexican multilingualism. The Mexican state has not taken into account the recommendations by the GALA; much less has it taken responsibility for repaying the historical debt to the original peoples, even though a tenuous effort was made to re-establish the much-needed conversation between different sectors of society for a better future of multilingualism, in the Mexican case.
