The 2005 Linguapax Award went to Professor Maurice Tadadjeu (1950-2012), a Cameroonian linguist, researcher in applied linguistics and president of the ANACLAC (National Association of Cameroonian Language Committees) in recognition of his lifelong commitment to the promotion and introduction of national languages in the education system and the promotion of a Cameroonian language policy respectful of the linguistic and cultural diversity of Cameroon.
After the solemn ceremony of December 20, 2005 in Yaoundé, Linguapax expressed its wish to set up an African delegation of Linguapax sharing the ideals of the institution. Cameroon, within the framework of the collaboration with the Center for Applied Linguistics ANACLAC (now Department of African Languages and Cultures of the Africa United institute) was called to coordinate this.
ANACLAC volunteered to establish a Regional Linguapax Committee for Africa, and ensure that projects and programs for the promotion of African languages and cultural diversity are developed in all member countries of the Linguapax Afrika Network. The Coordination Committee comprises representatives of the five regions of Africa: North Africa, East Africa, West Africa, Central and South Africa.
The main projects developped in the framework of Linguapax Afrika include:
