On October 14, the president of Linguapax International, Mònica Pereña, flew to Edmonton, Canada, to begin a tour of schools and institutions collaborating with the International and Heritage Languages Association, winner of the International Linguapax Award 2016 for its promotion of language learning in a multicultural environment.
The Linguapax delegate for North America, Olenka Bilash, and the president of the IHLA, Antonella Cortese, organized an intensive program of visits to present and share their daily experience through the member schools of the Association. They visited the Gil Vicente Portuguese School, the St. George Ukrainian school, the Russian Educational Centre, the Ramgarhia Khalsa school, as well as Greek, Italian and Vietnamese schools.
The week will continue with a series of interviews with local educational and linguistic institutions, including a meeting with the CILLDI initiative, talks on good practices in language learning with teachers or on the use of new technologies in language learning, as well as a presentation of the managment of multilingualism in Catalan schools. The programme will end with the official award ceremony at the headquarters of the Association.
Let’s remember that this year the prize was awarded ex-aequo to IHLA and to the Yirrkala Schools in the Northern Territory of Australia where the ceremony took place on 19 August.
