Languages and the creation of worlds

On February 20th, at 6:30 pm

Verdaguer Hall, Ateneu Barcelonés (c/ Canuda, 6 – 08002 Barcelona)

With Alícia Fuentes-Calle, Ph. D. in Linguistics (UB) and Linguapax Director of Programmes.

Introduced by : Àlex Cosials, head of the Language and Litterature section of the Ateneu Barcelonés.

On the occasion of the commemoration of the International Mother Language Day, this session will focus on the way languages can be used to create worlds (and other ontological fantasies) through a few artistic examples: from the linguistic fantasies of the movie Arrival to invented languages such as na’avi (Avatar), klingon … and particularly examples from Borges – like some of his Fictions.
