2021 Linguapax Award Presentation and Colloquium on Local Languages and Multilingualism

The 2021 Linguapax International Award ceremony will take place on 21 December and will be followed by a colloquium on “Promotion of Local Languages and Multilingualism”.

The event will be opened by the president of the Institute of Catalan Studies, Teresa Cabré, the Minister of External Action and Open Government, Victòria Alsina, and the president of Linguapax, Mònica Pereña.

Hamza Ali Rajà, intercultural mediator, working for the City Council of Barcelona, will speak about the Pakistani community of Catalonia; Professor Maya Khemlani David, University of Malaysia, and member of the Linguapax Advisory Board, will explain the reasons for IBT’s successful candidacy for the Linguapax Award; Zubair Torwali and Aftab Ahmad, co-founders of the awarded organization, IBT, will illustrate linguistic diversity and multilingualism in northern Pakistan, and explain the projects of linguistic revitalization and social emancipation that IBT carries out in the Swat district.

After the speeches, there will be a colloquium of the series “Opposed or Convergent?”, on the promotion of local languages and multilingualism. And a debate open to public participation.

The event will take place on 21 December at 6pm CET in the Sala Joan i Pere Coromines of the Institute of Catalan Studies, Carrer del Carme 47, Barcelona.
