This two-day seminar, supported by the BAAL/Cambridge University Press Seminar Programme (2010), is the beginning of what we hope will be a productive working partnership between researchers in Linguistics and those researching the fields of Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution.

We invite participants from both academic communities and would expect that those attending will be prepared to engage with the relatively open structure that we are proposing. We expect to have very short presentations from each of the plenary speakers (see below) but intend much of the conference to be spent examining ways in which the theories and practices of these fields may be combined to throw further light on the central communicative aspects of conflict and the resolution of conflict.
