Over the last five years, the
Linguapax Institute has increased its activities at international
level developing projects of cooperation with other institutions
that share the aim of fostering language diversity worldwide.
In order to consolidate the international presence of
Linguapax, an interactive network of organizations in
different continents has been set up. The first delegation
named Linguapax.-Asia was created at the University of
Tokyo in 2003. Currently, the Linguapax
International Network is made up of 7 delegations :
- Linguapax Africa, in Cameroon
(ANACLAC)
- Linguapax Asia, in Japan (University
of Tokyo)
- Linguapax North America, in
the USA, (Endangered Language Fund)
- Linguapax Latin America, in
Mexico (CIESAS)
- Linguapax Eurasia, in the Republic
of Kalmykia of the Russian Federation (University of
Kalmykia)
- Linguapax Europe, in Barcelona
(Unescocat)
- Linguapax Pacific, in New Caledonia.
The Linguapax International
Network was officially set up on February 21st 2006 in
Barcelona, coinciding with the celebration of the International
Mother Language Day. On that day a framework agreement
establishing the terms of collaboration was jointly signed
by the representatives of the different continental delegations.
These representatives
agreed to gather efforts in order to promote the Linguapax
philosophy through projects concerning revitalization
and documentation of endangered languages, research on
intercultural and multilingual education, teacher training
with a special focus on multilingual education and elaboration
of pedagogical material on non dominant cultures and languages.
The Linguapax office
in Barcelona coordinates and monitors the network depending
on the needs, possibilities and priorities of the different
delegations. The Linguapax website will serve to publicize
the delegations’ activities and make it known to
the public.
