Publicat el 14/11/2011

April 13-15, 2012

Call for Papers
The International Linguistic Association (ILA) invites submissions for its 57th annual conference to be held at Borough of Manhattan Community College, City University of New York, April 13-15, 2012.
Papers in any area of linguistics are appropriate; however, the theme of this year's conference is LANGUAGE AND INSTITUTIONS. For this conference, participants are invited to examine how language functions within institutions and/or how institutional contexts shape language. These studies may focus on a wide variety of institutions including, but not limited to, education, medicine, social work, law enforcement, urban planning, religion, government, and family. Papers addressing the theme may report qualitative, quantitative, or mixed- method research studies. While we encourage submissions relevant to the theme, we welcome proposals in all areas of linguistics.

Abstract submission

Please submit abstracts (300-word maximum) to http://linguistlist.org/confcustom/ila2012. You can submit abstracts starting on November 15th. The submission deadline is January 15,
2012. Authors of submissions will be notified of acceptance by February 15, 2012. Time allotted for presentations will be 20 minutes for delivery of the paper plus 5 minutes for discussion.

Proposals may be made for 1) paper presentations, 2) panel presentations, or 3) poster presentations.

Proposals for paper presentations and poster presentations have the same format (abstract of 300 words or less; see above). When submitting, please specify whether you would like to do a paper presentation or a poster session.

Panel session proposals should be submitted by the panel organizer as a single document that includes: a) an overall summative abstract for the panel (no more than 300 words) and b) individual abstracts of 300 words each for each speaker. An individual panel session can run up to 2 hours; please specify your preferred length, and we will do our best to accommodate you. Panels will not have discussants.

Proposals will be blind-reviewed for their originality, quality, and breadth of relevance. In addition, panel proposals will be evaluated for the coherence and complementarity of their individual presentations.
