Publicat el 04/07/2011

More than 30 experts on linguistic diversity and language legislation have confirmed their attendance to the Mercator Conference in Barcelona, to be held at CIEMEN headquarters on 30th September and 1st October. All in all, the conference "The role of legislation in enhancing linguistic diversity: recent developments and trends" will include some 25 presentations on issues relating to multilingualism, minority languages in Europe, language legislation, migrant and sign languages.
The conference will examine to what extent it is possible to sustain, promote and develop linguistic diversity and multilingualism, both for minority/minorized languages and for languages of newcomers to Europe.
The 2011 Mercator Conference on Legislation thus aims at providing researchers, civil society representatives, policy makers and stakeholders with an understanding of new developments and trends in language legislation.
This is the last conference of Mercator Network's present project 2009-2011. In 2009, the Network organized a conference on ‘Developments in the curriculum of language teaching and learning, at primary school level and in secondary education' in Ljouwert (Friesland). In 2010, a second conference on multilingualism and media was held in Aberystwyth (Wales).
