Development planner

Development planners are involved in planning for disadvantaged communities, both urban and rural. They formulate policies, strategies and programmes to meet the needs of these communities. Development planners are drawn from a wide range of disciplines including social sciences, town and regional planning, architecture and education amongst others.

 

Language policy advisor

A language policy advisor provides information necessary for the formulation of a language policy. He or she is a specialist in language issues as they affect different groupings in the population. A language policy advisor may make recommendations to educational institutions, government departments and public broadcasters who all need to make decisions concerning language policy. Specialisation in languages, literature, philosophy, social sciences and education will provide a useful base to enter this field.

 

Policy planner, language

A policy planner formulates the policy governing language. A policy determines the manner in which language and language issues will be treated in a given community, region or country. He or she consults with oganisations and individuals so that the policy reflects their needs. A language policy planner may work for educational institutions, government departments and public broadcasters who all need to make decisions concerning language policy.
