Policies and Practices Affecting Freedom of Speech
An international conference of the American Society of Geolinguistics will take place September 23-24, 2011. Many countries have in their constitutions statements regarding freedom of speech and have legislated on such topics as treasonous speech, incitement to riot, liable and slander, etc. Few legislate against blasphemy but some do regarding pornography.
This international conference to be held at Baruch College (CUNY) is still another in the successful series of annual conferences of the American Society of Geolinguistics (founded in 1965 by Mario Pei). They have drawn participants from the US, the UK, France, Germany, Russia, Spain, China, Japan, Australia, Cuba and more. A number of proceedings of those
conferences have been published. This conference's 15-minute papers, expanded to a maximum of 15 single-spaced pages, including works cited, is planned.
Keynote speaker will be Prof. Adrian Pablé, University of Hong Kong
