Meeting Description:
The theme for the fifth edition of 'Accents' is 'Tools for accent studies', which is intended to highlight the importance of methodology in the studies undertaken both in natural and formal setting. Continuing the tradition of converging socio-phonetic, psycho-phonetic and pedagogical approaches to variability in speech, this conference aims at attracting papers reporting on a variety of methods used in the studies including, but not limited to recent developments in accents of English around the world, spoken language corpora, changing attitudes to accents, the role of accent models in teaching English around the world, pedagogical applications of accent studies and native - non-native accent studies interface.

Special Sessions:
Three special sessions devoted to the use of computer software for phonetic analysis, spoken language corpora and statistics are planned during the conference.
(1) Phonetic analysis on computers
(2) Spoken language corpora
(3) Statistics in accent studies
Call for Papers:
We invite proposals for papers and workshops related to the main theme as well as other aspects of accent studies. Please notice that each author can propose two contributions if one is intended for the main conference and the other one for a special session. Papers are given 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes for discussion; workshops will typically have 45 minute slots. Please specify the intended presentation format in your proposal.
The deadline for abstract submission is September 30th, 2011. Please send two copies of an abstract of up to 400 words (excluding references) to accentsuni.lodz.pl, with the intended format, name and affiliation written under the title in one copy. The proposals will go through the process of peer review, after which notifications of acceptance will be sent out by October 21, 2011.
