King’s College in Auckland, New Zealand has become the first school to make te reo Maori compulsory in its curriculum. The subject will be compulsory for all year nine students and then optional in the following years.
"When they go to university to do law and medicine there will be a Maori component to those papers, so this work will give them a better perspective of how to work with and treat Maori families." The Headmaster of King’s College, Bradley Fenner has said.
