The Lakota language spoken in the Great Plains in the US, has become the first language to achieve the status of a Two Year degree major available to students in the University of South Dakota. The program will begin in 2011 for the first batch of new students to learn Lakota in the context of Education as a second language. The new policy will help the Lakota language to make a confident leap into the 21st century.
